This painting is part of the corrugated paper series and inspired by the architecture of Macau. This temple commonly known as Tianhou Temple was originally built in 1488 under the Ming Dynasty. It is considered the oldest temple and is dedicated to the Chinese goddess of Sea Mazu, protector of seafarers on maritime journeys. This temple is a good representation of Chinese culture inspired by Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism, and multiple folk beliefs. Before the Portuguese arrived in 1557, it was already a thriving sanctuary for villagers and fisherman. Today it represents a blend of Oriental and Western influences and has become a historic site protected under the UNESCO World Heritage since 2005.

This painting is inspired by my travels in Kathmandu, Nepal. This temple known as the monkey temple or Swayambhunath “The Lord Who is Self-Arisen”. It is recognized as one of the oldest stupas in Nepal, and peaceful place for Hindu, Buddhist, and Tibetan people to gather around.
